Check out the post cards of Anna Maria as it once was – a time of innocence and serenity. Take a glimpse of how things use to be.
The title of the Article “Wish You Were Here” brought back memories of my own childhood and finding a post card from some far away place that I had never seen before in my mailbox. “Wish you were here!” How my young heart yearned to be there too!
Things were different on Anna Maria Island in the old days. Within the lifetimes of our eldest residents, there was no bridge leading to the Island, and people took a ferry across the Intracoastal Waterway. Even earlier, they arrived at the Anna Maria City Pier by steamship from Tampa. Ladies’ swimsuits included hats. Roads were made of sea shells.
But some things remain the same, like the surf, the sand, the sun, and the postcard sentiment, “Wish you were here.”
